DEER PARK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A Long Island woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison for fatally stabbing an 85-year-old woman and attempting to kill her ex-boyfriend during a 2021 "rampage" over an apartment lease renewal, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced on Friday.
Shaquela Titley, 31, of Deer Park, will also be subject to five years of post-release supervision following her sentencing Thursday. She pleaded guilty in August to manslaughter for fatally stabbing Marie Mille, 85, and attempted murder for trying to kill her ex-boyfriend.
According to court documents, on the morning of Dec. 23, 2021, Titley fatally stabbed Mille in her Deer Park home.
Titley, who had been renting an apartment inside Marie Mille's home for approximately nine months, was apparently upset because Titley's ex-boyfriend and Mille's son, was not going to renew her apartment lease.
Titley's ex-boyfriend, who was not present at the home when the stabbing happened, returned later that day to find his mother deceased and covered in blood.
Titley then attacked him and repeatedly stabbed him.
The victim ultimately fought his way out of the house and sought refuge in a neighbor's home, prosecutors said.
Titley was arrested later that day.
"During a fit of anger, this defendant chose to go on a rampage where she viciously killed an 85-year-old woman, Marie Mille, and then attempted to kill her ex-boyfriend, in the most merciless and violent way," said District Attorney Tierney. "We hope this sentence brings a small measure of closure to the victims' friends and loved ones."
