NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Long Island mother was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to murdering her twin two-year-old daughters nearly five years ago, prosecutors announced on Monday.

Tenia Campbell, 28, of Medford, pleaded guilty on Dec. 13, 2023, to two counts of murder after suffocating her twin daughters to death in June 2019.

“These two young lives were cut short by the one person who was supposed to love and protect them,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “Although the 20-year sentence here resolves this sad case, it will not bring back these girls.”

Campbell’s mother on June 27, 2019, called 911 to report that her daughter was driving around in the family van and threatened to kill her daughters, Jaida and Jasmine, according to court documents.

Police then launched a search for Campbell and her daughters and at around 4 p.m. an East Hampton Police Officer spotted her van just a few miles west of Montauk Point.

The police officer walked over to Campbell’s van and saw that she was standing outside of it.

He then saw Campbell’s two-year old twin daughters dead in their car seats, prosecutors said.  Campbell later admitted to suffocating the girls to death.

Campbell was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
