NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Prosecutors on Long Island charged 40 people in connection with a drug trafficking ring on Monday, including a man who allegedly dealt drugs out of illegal day care centers.
Lex Lloyd was one of 40 people indicted as part of a drug bust known as "Operation Honeycomb" on Monday, the Nassau County District Attorney's office said in a press release.
Lloyd and another person, who has not yet been arrested, "conducted narcotic business" out of illegal day care centers in Hempstead and Rosedale, the DA's office said.
Law enforcement officials recovered 50 oxycodone pills, 520 grams of cocaine, two narcotics presses and bullets from Lloyd's home on Pierson Avenue in Hempstead, prosecutors said.
Five of the 40 other people who were arrested "sold a cocktail of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine," according to prosecutors.
"Operation Honeycomb" investigators seized a total of approximately $2,772,000 worth of narcotics as part of the bust, the DA's office said, including 9.5 kilograms of "nearly pure" cocaine, 1.5 kilograms of crack cocaine, more than one kilogram of heroin, 250 grams of fentanyl and 210 grams of morphine, the DA's office said.
The bust got its moniker "because a large volume of drugs was allegedly packaged and stored at a defendant's home, which was frequently referred to as the 'honeycomb' by co-defendants in wiretapped calls," the release noted.
"This massive multi-agency takedown strikes a heavy blow to the the narcotics trafficking infrastructure in our region," District Attorney Madeline Singas said in a statement.
"We recovered huge quantities of drugs, stockpiles of weapons and 40 drug traffickers and dealers have been indicted for their alleged roles in this dangerous network," Singas added.
Attorney information for Lloyd wasn't immediately available Monday.
