VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Officials arrested a 32-year-old man on Sunday accused of injuring several people, including an officer, in a Long Island crime spree.
According to detectives, at around 9:15 a.m., Jonathan Louissaint unlawfully entered a residence on Forest Avenue in Valley Stream and attacked a 24-year-old man, punching him in the face and striking his hand with a metal bar.
Louissaint then went to a nearby 7-Eleven, located at 100 Sunrise Highway, where he struck a 35-year-old man on the hand with a beer can. He left the store and attempted to enter multiple occupied vehicles in the area, before entering an unoccupied 2020 Hyundai which was parked and running on Rockaway Parkway.
He then fled, eventually crashing into a 2020 Toyota occupied by a 29-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man on New Hyde Park Road in the vicinity of Auburn Street, authorities said.
Louissaint also struck a parked car which then damaged a business sign.
While being placed under arrest at the scene of the accident, Louissaint became combative and injured an officer by striking him in the face, officials said.
The injured officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The two occupants of the Toyota were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. All other victims declined further medical attention.
Louissaint was charged with burglary, two counts of assault, robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, grand larceny, reckless endangerment, two counts of attempted grand larceny, criminal mischief and multiple VTL violations.
He will be arraigned on Monday in Hempstead.
