EAST GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Nassau County police arrested a man after he allegedly caused a stampede at a Long Island mall and bit an officer over the weekend.
Police responded to a disturbance at Roosevelt Field Mall in East Garden City at 6:20 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, authorities said.
Upon arrival, police were notified that a fight occurred in the food court which caused an influx of people to promptly exit the mall.
Officers located Christopher Santana, 22, as he was attempting to reenter the mall carrying several bricks, cops said.
When oOfficers attempted to place the defendant under arrest, Santana became violent and combative and began spitting and biting officers, cops said.
One officer suffered an injury to his left hand as a result, and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Santana was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned on Saturday, Dec. 28, in Hempstead.
