DIX HILLS , N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Suffolk County police arrested a drunk driver following a crash that killed a pedestrian on Long Island Sunday afternoon.
Just after 3 p.m., Kenneth Stewart, 64, was driving a 2021 Honda Civic westbound on Vanderbilt Parkway at Village Hill Drive in Dix Hills when the vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway, officials said.
The pedestrian, Angela Sarant, 69, was transported to South Shore University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Stewart, of Huntington Station, was not injured.
He was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs.
He was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
The Honda was impounded for a safety check.
