EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Suffolk County police arrested a man for stabbing and critically injuring an acquaintance during an altercation at a Long Island amusement park Sunday.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., two men who knew each other were involved in a dispute involving several people at Adventureland Amusement Park, located at 2245 Broadhollow Rd. in East Farmingdale, authorities said.
According to detectives, Daniel Tomasky, 42, stabbed James Burns, 47, in the abdomen with a knife.
There was at least one child present at the time of the altercation.
Burns, of Edgewater, Florida, was transported to an area hospital where he is in critical condition.
Tomasky's charges include assault, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
He will be arraigned at in Central Islip on July 8.
"For more than 60 years, Adventureland has been providing Long Island families with a convenient, affordable and fun local destination. The safety and security of our visitors is our highest priority," An Adventureland spokesperson said. "This afternoon, Sunday July 7, apparently two families got into a confrontation at the park, resulting in one male with stab wounds. Park Safety responded quickly to the altercation to secure the scene, provide aid and called in local police and first responders."
"The police have finished processing the scene and as of 8 p.m. all parts of the park are reopened until 10 p.m. tonight and will operate under regular hours in the week coming up," the spokesperson added. "We defer any further comment about the incident to Suffolk Police who are investigating."
