ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Detectives arrested a homeless man for assaulting an officer responding to a domestic dispute on Long Island early Wednesday, authorities said.

At about 12:50 a.m., officers responded to a Roosevelt residence for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers were informed by a 39-year-old woman that Joshua Williams, 27, was intoxicated and breaking items inside the home.

When police attempted to place Williams under arrest, he bit an officer and spit in his face.

Williams was placed into custody and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. The injured officer was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

No further injuries were reported.

Williams is charged with assault and criminal mischief. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
