NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 30-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly crashed a stolen SUV into two police cars on Long Island during a chase early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Christopher Cruz stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the driveway of a home on Oakland Avenue, in Port Jefferson Station, around 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday night, Suffolk County police said.
Officers called to the scene followed Cruz into the parking lot of a Mobil gas station on Route 112 in Coram around 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, the department said. When Cruz spotted them, he rammed the Jeep into one of their cars — injuring an officer — and drove off, police said.
Cruz then drove to the intersection of Canal Road and Strathmore Court in Mount Sinai, where he lost control of the Jeep and crashed into a snowbank, according to police.
When he tried to drive away, he rammed the Jeep into a second police car before driving into another snow bank, police said.
A second officer was injured as Cruz was arrested, according to police.
Cruz, who is homeless, has been charged with third-degree grand larceny, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest, police said.
He was expected to appear in court on Wednesday, according to police. His attorney information wasn't immediately available.
