HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Suffolk County detectives launched an investigation after a man was fatally shot when he answered a knock at the door of his Long Island home early Tuesday morning.

According to officials, 23-year-old Byron Martinez was shot around 1:15 a.m. as he answered the door of his home on Fifth Avenue, near W. Pulaski Road, in Huntington Station.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician's assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
