AMYTIVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A man was indicted for his role in the robbery and fatal stabbing of a funeral home owner on Long Island in August, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced Monday.
Jason Funderburke, 37, was charged with robbery and assault.
According to the investigation, on Aug. 29, Funderburke and an unapprehended accomplice allegedly approached the owner as he returned to the funeral home in Amytiville.
Funderburke displayed a photo of the victim's family and threatened them.
According to officials, Funderburke and his accomplice began punching the victim and during the assault, the accomplice stabbed the victim twice.
During the incident, Funderburke and his accomplice allegedly demanded money and stole property from the victim.
Funderburke is due back in court on Jan. 24, 2024.
"This local business owner who was allegedly targeted by the defendant and an unapprehended accomplice," DA Tierney said. "The victim was not only targeted and stabbed, but his family was also allegedly targeted and threatened. I urge anyone with information as to the accomplice to contact Crime Stoppers, the Suffolk County Police Department, or my office."
