
VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Authorities arrested a man for running in traffic on Long Island then throwing a cell phone at a police officer's head Wednesday afternoon.
According to detectives, officers responded to N. Central Avenue and Ethel Street in Valley Stream at 3:42 p.m. for a disturbance involving a male running in and out of traffic causing a safety concern for himself and motorists.
Upon police arrival, Robert Musmacher, 41, refused to comply with officer commands to exit the roadway.
Musmacher became violent and combative by throwing his cell phone at an officer's head causing him to suffer a contusion. Officers secured Musmacher and placed him under arrest.
The injured officer and Musmacher were both transported to local area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Musmacher was charged with assault, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
