VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man was arrested for assault after he slashed a woman while attempting to break up a fight on Long Island early Monday morning.
According to detectives, at about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to J & F Jimenez Deli located at 240 Rockaway Ave. in Valley Stream for a disturbance.
Upon arrival, a 31-year-old woman told police that while attempting to break up a fight, Jose Velasquez, 38, brandished a knife resulting in her sustaining a laceration to her left hand.
Velasquez was placed under arrest without incident.
The victim refused medical attention. No other injuries were reported.
Velasquez was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon and he will be arraigned on Monday.
