VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a Queens man for attempted murder after he allegedly slashed a woman's neck, causing a large gash, on Long Island over the weekend, authorities said.
Charles Mckenzie, 36, was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to detectives, at about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, officers responded to a Valley Stream location to take a report for an assault.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to a 31-year-old woman who had sustained a large laceration to the rear and left side of her neck.
Authorities determined that the injury was caused by a knife, wielded by Mckenzie of Cambria Heights who was at the scene where the report was taken.
Mckenzie was placed under arrest without further incident.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Mckenzie was arraigned on Monday, Dec. 18.
