NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The borough presidents of Manhattan and Queens called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign on Saturday, the latest local leaders to say the governor should step down amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards released a joint statement, saying Cuomo "must resign and be held accountable" as an investigation overseen by state Attorney General Letitia James continues.

"New York needs a leader at this critical time during our State's history—a leader with integrity and a leader in which all New Yorkers have confidence," the pair said in their statement.

"While we support the ongoing investigations, we believe that the experiences recounted by the now seven women who have come forward warrant a call for the Governor's resignation," they said. "We cannot condone this behavior and don't believe that government can work effectively amid, nor should it try to work around, such a serious situation."

"New York deserves better," they finished their statement.

Brewer and Richards' statement came a day after a list of lawmakers from New York called on the governor to resign, including almost the entire 29-member New York congressional delegation.

Among the Democrats calling for his resignation were Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

"Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York," the senators wrote in a joint statement. "Governor Cuomo should resign."

Cuomo said Friday that he would not resign and called politicians seeking his resignation "reckless."
