NEW YORK (1010 WINS -- A Westchester County high school teacher who admitted he raped a student "stripped her of hope" and "took full advantage of her vulnerability," her mother said at his sentencing Tuesday.
Former New Rochelle High School teacher John Fraioli was sentenced to six months of shock incarceration and 10 years of sex offender probation on Tuesday after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual acts with a teenage student at the school building and at his White Plains home, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office said in a release.
Police arrested Fraioli in May 2019, and he pleaded guilty to the charges this past October, the DA's office said.
Both Fraioli's victim and the victim's mother read statements at his sentencing, according to the DA's office.
"Even though I logically know I'm not to blame, I still spent most days wondering if I could have done something different," the victim said. "I've had so many days, months, almost two years now wasted on unnecessary feelings of guilt, shame and embarrassment over something that wasn't my fault."
In her own statement, the victim's mother said Fraioli "stripped her of hope."
"You took full advantage of her vulnerability. You manipulated her. You used her. You preyed upon her," she said. "My only hope is that in time she will be able to overcome the abuse you inflicted. My biggest fear is that she may not."
Fraioli is expected to appear in court again in May for a hearing that will determine his sex offender risk level, the DA's office said.
