BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A second set of human remains—a woman's head, leg and arm—were found Thursday night, following the earlier discovery of a man's body parts near the same park on Long Island, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Police found the second set of human remains of an unidentified woman scattered around on the east and west ends of Southards Pond Park in Babylon, Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer confirmed during a press conference on Friday.

Investigators are waiting for an autopsy report to reveal more information about the cause of death.

The first set of human remains—a man's leg and arms—was found early Thursday morning at around 8:40 a.m. on the west side of Siegal Boulevard, between Park and Mason avenues, by a girl walking to school, police said.

At least one of the man's arms had a distinct tattoo that may help identify him, police said. At least one of the arms was missing fingertips, cops said.

The macabre discoveries in Babylon are being treated as a homicide, and the Suffolk PD’s homicide squad has been scouring the area.

Later on Thursday, as law enforcement continued to search the area throughout the day, a canine unit located a leg “sticking out of a pile of leaves” in a wooded area on Graham Place, between Beverly Road and Martin Place, police said.

While the arm was found on the eastern edge of the park, the leg was found about a half-mile northwest of there, on the western edge of the park.

Later in the afternoon, police confirmed that they found a second arm.

Babylon Mayor Mary Adams spoke with 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 and stated that “Up to what I know right now, they have found the body.”

Police have yet to confirm that a complete body was found, or that the limbs all belong to the same person. Beyrer also mentioned that it appeared all the remains were only out there "days or hours."

Both victims are believed to be adults, but their ages are not known.

Officers and cadaver dogs were seen searching the wooded area near Sunrise Highway. Beyrer thinks the remains of the two victims were dumped within hours or days of each other.

Police will remain in the area and Beyrer said they are searching for more possible victims.

An investigation is ongoing.
