NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that 35 more community-based pop-up vaccination sites are coming online this week, including more than a dozen in the New York City area.

Cuomo said the sites will provide first doses of the vaccine to over 25,000 New Yorkers this week at New York City Housing Authority senior housing developments, public housing sites, churches and community centers in partnership with public and private health care providers.

The sites will be re-established in three weeks to administer second doses of the vaccine.

The governor said similar sites have already given first doses to nearly 9,000 New Yorkers in recent weeks. He said community vaccination kits will continue to be deployed until pop-up sites have been established at all 33 NYCHA senior housing developments, which house more than 7,600 seniors.

Sites will also continue to come online at other public housing complexes statewide, as well as at more than 300 churches and cultural centers which have volunteered to house the sites through the governor's Vaccine Equity Task Force.

"COVID brought the ugly truth of inequity and inequality in this country to a tipping point," Cuomo said in a statement Wednesday. "COVID has killed Black and Latino New Yorkers at a higher rate and that is why these community-based sites are one of New York's vaccine priorities."

More about the vaccine, including eligibility and locations, can be found at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov.
