NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Nassau County is keeping a keen eye on Tropical Storm Henri, which is expected to strengthen as it continues to move up the east coast, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said in a statement on Thursday.

Due to a shift in its strength, the storm is now expected to reach hurricane force, reaching maximum sustained winds of 70 mph and located about 525 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Curran also advised all residents visiting Nassau County beaches to take caution in the water and follow lifeguard instructions as dangerously strong rip currents and wave strength are expected as the storm moves closer.
Risks from Henri include rough surf and dangerous rip currents at the beaches through the rest of this week and this weekend even if it remains offshore, according to AccuWeather.
