RHINEBECK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 49-year-old New Jersey man was killed in the Hudson Valley Tuesday in a head-on collision with a stolen SUV driven by a 14-year-old, authorities said.

Jonathan A. Keich was driving north on Route 9 near Closs Drive in Rhinebeck around 6:25 a.m. when a southbound Toyota 4Runner driven by the underage driver slammed into his Chevrolet van, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said.

Keich, who CBS 2 reported was an Army veteran, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 14-year-old was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, but was later remanded to a secure detention facility with charges pending.

They have not been identified due to their age.

The stolen 4Runner was one of several vehicles stolen in northern Dutchess County and Connecticut late Monday and early Tuesday by an organized vehicle theft ring that previously operated out of Connecticut, according to the sheriff's office.

An investigation is ongoing.
