NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — McDonald’s restaurants at service stations along the New York State Thruway have all closed as of Sunday, officials announced.
Nine of the chain’s 11 locations on the Thruway will be temporarily replaced by Applegreen C-Stores which are open 24 hours and offer grab-and-go food options like sandwiches and snacks.
Along with the McDonald’s locations shuttering, two service areas on the Thruway, Warners and Ramapo, will also be closed for construction.
The revamping of the service stops is part of an ongoing renovation of the Thruway’s 27 area stops as part of a $450 million grant.
The service areas under construction will be completely rebuilt and feature new restaurant concepts, Taste NY food and drink products, seasonal food trucks, outdoor seating and playground areas, among other amenities.
Some of the new food options will eventually include Chick-fil-A and Shake Shack.
