NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The state Assembly Judiciary Committee launched a confidential hotline for the public as it conducts an investigation into whether there are grounds to impeach Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The tipline was announced Thursday by Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine, who said it can be used to provide information relevant to the Assembly's impeachment investigation into the governor.
People interested in providing relevant tips can call the law firm leading the investigation, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, at (212) 450-3600.
The law firm can also be reached by email at NY.Assembly.Investigation@davispolk.com.
Information provided to the hotline will remain confidential, Lavine said.
On March 11, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie authorized the Assembly Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment investigation to examine allegations of misconduct against Cuomo. The committee has the authority to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence.
Heastie and Lavine announced on March 17 that they had retained Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP to lead the impeachment investigation, which could take months.
The investigation is looking into allegations of sexual misconduct against Cuomo, as well as reports his administration intentionally underreported COVID-19 deaths at nursing homes and glazed over safety concerns at the Mario Cuomo Bridge. It's also examining whether the governor unlawfully used his office to provide his family members with special access to scarce coronavirus tests a year ago.
The state attorney general is also investigating the allegations of sexual harassment, which Cuomo has denied, and a federal inquiry into the state's reporting of nursing home resident deaths is underway.
