NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New York man who served prison time for a 2016 plot to murder his wife pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence in a second murder plot, Rockland County District Attorney announced Monday.

Ira Bernstein, 51, was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison in 2017 for conspiring to murder his wife, Susan Bernstein, and to assault two insurance investigators. He was released on parole in July 2021.

According to District Attorney Thomas Walsh, Between August and September 2022, Bernstein attempted to conceal, alter, and destroy an audio recording that documented his attempt to solicit someone to kill his wife. He pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence, related to this second plot.

Bernstein previously faced five to fifteen years in state prison and was placed under a 10-year order of protection in favor of his wife, Susan Bernstein, following the 2017 sentencing.

He is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 5.
