NY, NJ, CT extend state income tax deadlines to May 17 to align with new federal date

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York, New Jersey and Connecticut on Friday pushed their income tax deadlines back to May 17 to align with the federal government’s recently-announced extension.

The 30-day extension “aligns with the federal government’s and provides New Yorkers still coping with the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic ample time to file their taxes,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

“This will shift approximately $6 billion of revenue from April to May, and the state will make any necessary adjustments to cash-flow,” Cuomo’s budget director, Robert Mujica, said in his own statement.

The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service pushed the deadline to file federal income taxes back from April 15 to May 17 on Wednesday.
