The Yankees are reportedly finalizing a trade to acquire Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
The Bombers went into Monday's deadline day in need of right-handed offense, and Ramos will at least provide some semblance of an upgrade. The 26-year-old is batting .264 with nine home runs and a .728 OPS in 288 at-bats this season.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees will part with prospects Henry Lalane and Kaeden Kent. The latter is the son of Giants legend and recent Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Kent. Lalane and Kent are the fifth and 13th ranked prospects in the Yankees system, respectively, according to MLB Pipeline.
Ramos, an All-Star in 2024, is hitting .257 with a .737 OPS across his five-year career, all with San Francisco. He is not a free agent until 2030, giving the Yanks years of team control, which Brian Cashman typically covets in trades.
The Yankee outfield has been rough offensively and defensively in the absence of the injured Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger. Max Schuemann, who had been seeing regular time in the outfield, was sent down after the acquisition of Luis Garcia Jr. Trent Grisham has been mired in a slump, and Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones remain potential trade chips.
The Yanks had reportedly been eyeing Ramos for a while now. It marks the second straight season that the Yanks and Giants have worked together at the trade deadline. New York will hope this trade works out better than last year, as Camilo Doval was a disaster and has already been traded to the Pirates.
