NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The number of New Yorkers hospitalized with COVID-19 surpassed 1,900 on Sunday as the state reported 25 new COVID-19-related deaths, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.

As of Sunday, 1,968 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19 complications, up from 1,845 on Saturday, Cuomo said in a release Monday afternoon.

Two hundred and sixty-five of the 1,968 hospitalized patients were newly admitted; 391 were in intensive care; and 158 were on ventilators, he said. Hospitalizations in New York last topped 1,900 on June 10, when 2,042 people in the state were hospitalized with the virus.

Of the 124,565 COVID-19 test results that came back in the state on Sunday, 3,490, or 2.80 percent, were positive.

Excluding its microclusters, the state reported a 2.50 percent infection rate. The microclusters reported a 4.19 percent positivity rate.

One of the 25 New Yorkers who passed away died in the Bronx; one died in Broome County; one died in Dutchess County; nine died in Erie County; two died in Brooklyn; one died in Madison County; two died in Nassau County; one died in Oneida County; one died in Onondaga County; one died in Queens; one died in Rensselaer County; one died on Staten Island; one died in Tioga County and two died in Westchester County, Cuomo said.

"COVID-19 is spreading in New York, and the increased number of cases is taking place throughout the state," he said in a statement. "This is not an upstate or downstate issue — all New Yorkers, regardless of where they live, have cause for concern."

"We are continuing to use a comprehensive microcluster strategy and increase our testing capacity to new heights," he added. "However, our success also depends on the vigilance and smart behavior of New Yorkers."
