NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The number of New Yorkers hospitalized with COVID-19 continued to climb on Monday as the state reported 15 new deaths related to the virus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

As of Monday, 1,083 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 1,059 on Sunday, Cuomo said in a press release.

Two hundred and thirty-three patients were in intensive care units, and 120 were on ventilators, he said.

One of the 15 people who passed away due to COVID-19 complications died in the Bronx; one died in Delaware County; two died in Brooklyn; two died in Manhattan; four died in Nassau County; one died in Oneida County; one died in Steuben County; one died in Tioga County; one died in Ulster County and one died in Westchester County.

Of the 11,618 COVID-19 test results that came back on Monday, 1,991, or 1.78 percent, were positive, Cuomo said.

The state's infection rate excluding its COVID-19 microclusters was 1.53 percent. The microclusters themselves reported a 3.65 percent infection rate.

"We know COVID is spreading at increased rates in other states, and New York state is not a hermetically sealed bubble," the governor said in a statement. "The numbers are a reminder that COVID is still here, and continues to spread in communities across the state, particularly when people choose not to follow the safety protocols in place to control the virus."

The New York State Department of Health is still tracking cases linked to "mass gatherings" at houses of worship, including weddings and funerals, he noted.

New York on Tuesday also added California to its COVID-19 travel advisory, which requires travelers coming from high-risk hotspots to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Massachusetts met the criteria for the advisory, but was not officially added to the list given the "interconnected nature of the region and mode of transport between the states," according to the release.
