NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The number of teachers applying for retirement in New York state more than doubled in the fall of 2020 compared to the fall of 2019, a new analysis found.
A total of 1,561 New York teachers filed for retirement between August and November 2020, up by 64 percent from the same period in 2019, the New York Post reported, citing data from the New York State Teachers Retirement System.
A Brooklyn middle school teacher told the Post teacher morale "is not great right now."
"Obviously everyone's situation is different," the teacher said. "[But] if people have alternatives, they are going to look at them."
