NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty police officer arrested a serial burglar after he spotted him breaking into a convenience store on Long Island early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The off-duty Nassau County officer was driving home from work around 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday when he spotted Anthony Livieri, 49, breaking into Woodmere Convenience at 1064 Broadway in Woodmere, Nassau County police said Thursday.
Livieri tried to flee the store through its front glass door, which was broken, but the officer grabbed him, the department said.
After a struggle, the office managed to take Livieri into custody, police said.
The officer and Livieri were both taken to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for injuries sustained during the scuffle, the department said.
Police say Livieri also burglarized Hempstead Tobacco Shop in Hempstead on Nov. 24; an Ultra Gas in North Valley Stream on Dec. 9; and a Speedway Gas Station in Westbury on Dec. 11.
He faces charges including second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, second-degree assault, second-degree menacing and third-degree grand larceny, police said.
His attorney information wasn't immediately available Thursday.
