HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- State police are investigating the hit-and-run death of a 72-year-old man on Southern State Parkway early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Just before 4 a.m., officers were dispatched near Exit 15 on the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead for a report of a man walking in the roadway.
When troopers arrived, Vincent Lashley, 72, of Queens, was observed laying in the right lane shoulder of the road deceased, officials said.
A preliminary investigation determined that Lashley was walking on the Southern State Parkway when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle that left the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Identification Unit.
