NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik has called for an investigation into an allegation that Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed a former aide.
Lindsey Boylan, a former Cuomo aide who is currently running for Manhattan Borough President, accused the governor of sexually harassing her "for years" in a series of tweets on Sunday.
Cuomo has adamantly denied the allegations, calling them "simply not true." On Monday, however, Stefanik said the state should launch an "independent investigation" into Boylan's claims.
"The people of New York deserve a Governor who lives up to his own public statements on sexual harassment," the congresswoman, who represents parts of upstate New York, wrote on Twitter.
In her tweet thread, Boylan claimed "many" people witnessed the governor's alleged harassment.
"I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks," she wrote. "Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years."
"Not knowing what to expect [was] the most upsetting part aside from knowing that no one would do a damn thing even when they saw it," she added. "And I *know* I am not the only woman."
Asked about Boylan's allegations by reporters at a news briefing on Monday, Cuomo said he "heard about the tweet and what it said about comments I had made, and it's not true."
"I fought for and I believe a woman has the right to come forward and express her opinion, and express issues and concerns that she has," he said. "But it's just not true."
Boylan worked for the governor's administration between March 2015 and October 2018.
