NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – About a dozen students became sick on Monday after consuming THC-infused gummies at a middle school on Long Island, according to officials.
First responders and Suffolk County police rushed to William Floyd Middle School in Moriches after reports that multiple students were experiencing symptoms, including vomiting.
Eleven students, ages 13 and 14, were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
A mother of three, who has both a niece and a cousin at the middle school, told 1010 WINS that any students who took the gummies should face consequences.
"The consequences should be the same as if they consumed alcohol," she said.
Authorities confirmed that one student distributed the gummies to others. How the student obtained the gummies was not immediately clear.
"We are grateful to our first responders for their quick response, thankful that the students will be treated and hopeful that they will recover quickly," the school wrote in a Facebook post.
No criminal charges will be filed. The school will determine the appropriate disciplinary action for the students.
