NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York families who utilize the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are expected to receive the maximum level of food benefits for October starting this week.

Governor Kathy Hochul's office announced Tuesday that $230 million of federal aid will be added to the assistance.
"During this unprecedented time as we continue to battle a public health crisis, we need to make sure every New Yorker does not have to experience hunger and food insecurity," Hochul said.
Her office noted this increased aid will also benefit families who do not normally receive the maximum allowable benefit per month on SNAP.
Households outside of New York City are expected to see these benefits post this week through Oct. 21.
Families within the five-county New York City region should receive these same privileges between Oct. 18 and the end of the month.
"By supporting food benefits during this difficult time, we are helping to ensure that everyone in this state gets a much-needed helping hand so they can make ends meet, support themselves and their families, and be successful," she said.
