Boy, 17, arrested for targeting delivery drivers at gunpoint in string of LI robberies

BELLPORT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) Suffolk County Police arrested a teen accused of targeting delivery drivers in a string of robberies that began in February.

According to police, a 17-year-old Bellport boy called local restaurants to order food deliveries to various locations in Bellport, Patchogue, and Shirley on five separate occasions between February 22 and April 13.

Once the driver arrived at the delivery address, the teen would steal cash and cell phones from the victim before fleeing the scene. The teen also displayed what appeared to be a handgun during four of the robberies, officials said.

Detectives arrested the teen at 80 Horseblock Rd. in Bellport at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15.

He was charged with 1st degree robbery for the following incidents:
• A Chinese food delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Montauk Highway in Bellport on Feb. 25 at approximately 9 p.m.

• A pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Doane Avenue in Bellport on March 1 at 8:23 p.m.

• A pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Terry Street in Patchogue on March 7 at 10 p.m.

• A pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Brushwood Drive in Shirley on Feb. 22 at approximately 8:05 p.m.

He is being charged with 2nd degree robbery for the following incident:
• A pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Michigan Avenue in Bellport on April 13 at approximately 8:25 p.m.

Additionally, he was charged with grand larceny for stealing a motor vehicle at 700 Patchogue Yaphank Rd. on Feb. 2 at approximately 8:40 a.m.

The teen, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, is scheduled to be arraigned on April 16.
