Teen killed, 2 others critically injured in collision on Long Island Expressway

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials investigating a fatal collision that left one teen dead and two others critically injured during a crash on the Long Island Expressway on Monday night.

The collision occurred just before 10 p.m. near exit 49S in Melville when the driver of a Honda Civic struck a Mazda SUV, causing them both off the roads and into a wooded area, according to Suffolk County police.

Josue Melendez-Florez, a 19-year-old passenger in the SUV was killed.

Two passengers in the Honda, a 14 year old and an 18 year old, were injured and remain in critical condition.

Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities added.

An investigation remains ongoing.
