CARLE PLACE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 21-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a garbage truck while crossing an intersection on Long Island last week.
According to detectives, at 5:32 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, Mahiat Hossen was attempting to cross Old Country Road northbound in the vicinity of Glen Cove Road in Carle Place when she was struck by a 2016 Mack garbage truck that was traveling eastbound on Old Country Road.
Hossen was pronounced dead after suffering a "catastrophic injury to her head and body," Nassau County officials said.
No other injuries were reported and the driver remained at scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
