NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested a woman in upstate New York last week after her 6-week-old puppy died of a heroin overdose.
According to state police, 26-year-old Nicole Holland, of Fulton, was allegedly using the drug when her puppy, a miniature Doberman Pinscher named Champ ingested some as well.
She was charged with animal cruelty last Thursday and issued a desk appearance ticket after an autopsy revealed that the dog's death was caused by an opioid intoxication, authorities said.
Holland is scheduled to appear in Hannibal Town Court on April 6, officials said.
