MERRICK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested a woman carrying cat at a Long Island Starbucks who they said punched a police officer in the eye Wednesday afternoon.
According to detectives, at 1:05 p.m., officers responded to a Starbucks located at 1713 Merrick Ave. in Merrick for a disturbance involving a woman refusing to leave.
Upon arrival, officers observed Michele Peltz, 39, inside the establishment carrying a blue crate containing a cat.
When officers requested she vacate the premise, Peltz punched the officer striking him in the left eye, causing an injury.
A struggle ensued but the officer was able to subdue Peltz and place her under arrest.
The officer additionally sustained a hand injury.
Both Peltz and the officer were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Peltz was charged with assault, obstructing governmental administration and trespassing. She will be arraigned on Thursday.
