VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Nassau County police arrested a woman accused of fleeing a traffic stop on Long Island then dragging a cop on Thursday.

According to detectives, just before 2 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop after observing a black 2010 Volkswagen Jetta traveling north in front of 77 Green Acres Rd. West in Valley Stream with an expired NYS inspection sticker, missing front plate and an unregistered rear plate.

The driver failed to provide her license and vehicle registration and refused numerous times to comply with the officer’s requests. She then drove away with the front driver’s side door still open resulting in an officer being dragged by the car, causing him to sustain multiple injuries.

The woman fled the scene at a high rate of speed and nearly struck a pedestrian before stopping, officials said.

Charmaine Norville, 47, Irvington, New Jersey was taken into custody.

The injured officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Norville was charged with assault, criminal possession of a forged instrument, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle. She will be arraigned on Friday.
