BARNEGAT, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A teen was stabbed during a fight inside a bathroom at a New Jersey high school on Friday morning, police said.
According to police, a school resource officer assigned to Barnegat High School in Ocean County was approached before 8 a.m. by a staff member who advised them that there might have been an fight between students involving a stabbing.
The officer and additional Barnegat Police officers confirmed the incident and issued a shelter-in-place.
Police said a group of students got into a fight in one of the school's bathrooms in which one student was stabbed. The student, whose identity has not been released due to their age, was located and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
An "edged weapon" was recovered and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to process the scene and evidence.
"The shelter in place was lifted when officers and command staff determined and were confident that there was no threat to student safety," authorities said.
Charges are pending until investigators complete their investigation, police said.
