Suspect charged with murder 2 years after man found dead in woods behind NJ home

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Philadelphia man has been charged for the murder of a man found dead in a wooded area behind a Franklin Township home in 2020.

Juaquan S. Fitzgerald, 33, was arrested in Philadelphia Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree unlawfully disturbing human remains, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.

Franklin Township Police responded to the home on Park Street just after 6:30 p.m. on April 29, 2020, after people found a body, later identified as Duane S. Banks, of Franklin.

Prosecutor John P. McDonald did not disclose how the 27-year-old was killed.

Fitzgerald is currently being held at a Philadelphia jail pending an extradition hearing.
