CLIFTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 67-year-old suspect is charged with homicide after he allegedly shot another man during an argument at a New Jersey intersection on Friday night, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Angel Pacheco, of Clifton, is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon in the killing of 51-year-old Robert Rogers, of Elmwood Park.
An investigation determined that at about 11:45 p.m., Rogers exited his vehicle at the intersection of Lakeview Avenue and Merselis Avenue in Clifton, and approached a gray Ford F-150 stopped at a red light, operated by Pacheco.
An argument broke out between Rogers and the suspect, and prosecutors allege that during the fight, Pacheco pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the chest.
Rogers was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.
Pacheco was arrested without incident, and prosecutors will file a motion for pre-trial detention, officials said. He could face up to 30 years to life in prison if convicted of murder, and the weapons charges against him each have their own sentencing ranges of five to 10 years in prison.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-877-370-PCPO or tips@passaiccountynj.org.
