FAIRFIELD, Conn. (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a suspect accused of stealing a delivery van at gunpoint in Connecticut over the weekend, authorities said Thursday.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, officers responded to Woodrow Avenue in the Southport section of Fairfield after a delivery driver reported their vehicle stolen while delivering packages, cops said.

According to officials, the driver got out of the vehicle to deliver a package when the suspect jumped in the van through an open passenger-side door.

The driver attempted to intervene when the suspect pointed a gun at him before taking off in the vehicle.

The driver was not injured and asked nearby residents to call the police.

Police used the van's tracking device and quickly located the vehicle which had been abandoned at the intersection of Gray Rock Road and Daves Lane.

The driver's personal belongings were recovered inside the vehicle, but several packages had been taken, cops said.

Residents and businesses in the area are urged to review their surveillance systems and share any relevant footage with the Fairfield Police Department. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call detectives at (203) 254-4840.
