HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A New Jersey town announced it will drop a giant fiberglass M&M to ring in 2024—the first year in what will become an annual tradition.
Hackettstown will hold the inaugural M&M drop in the heart of town at Main Street and Grand Avenue, with festivities set to begin at 9 p.m.
An M&M character will be on hand to ring in the New Year, along with a DJ and cheerleaders.
"New Year’s Eve is almost here and Hackettstown is prepping for its first New Year’s Eve Celebration with an M&M's lentil drop at midnight," Hackettstown police said in a release Wednesday that included a rendering of the lentil, which is the term for a single M&M.
Hackettstown has a history with M&M's. It's home to a Mars Inc. factory that has made the candy since 1958. In fact, nearly half of the M&M's sold in the U.S. each year are produced at the 460,000-square-foot plant.
