EAST HAVEN, Conn. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880)-- Two armed men broke into a Connecticut home and tried to steal a cat on Sunday, according to police.
The theft attempt happened at around 3:45 p.m. when the two suspects entered a home on Thompson Street in East Haven, police said.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting a home invasion. The residents told the police that the suspects attempted to enter through a rear sliding door. They tried to stop them, but one of the suspects kicked through the glass pane of the slider and gained entry despite their efforts.
The invaders then showed them a gun and demanded that the residents give the “high dollar value” cat.
After searching the house for the cat for a couple of minutes, one of the residents tried to fight off the intruder who then ran away in a blue BMW.
They weren’t able to steal the cat.
Police did not clarify the type of cat involved or why it would be considered valuable.
Detectives from the East Haven Police Investigative Services Division took over the investigation and later found the BMW in Hamden. They seized the car and processed it for evidence.
As a result, they found that the invasion was targeted between people who knew each other.
No injuries were reported and an investigation is ongoing.
