VIDEO: Thieves make off with cell phone, jewelry in Bronx home invasion

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police are looking for a group of thieves who were caught on camera before and after ransacking a Bronx apartment last week.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at an apartment building near Faile Street and Lafayette Avenue in the Hunts Point section of the borough.

According to police, five individuals – three women and two men – somehow gained entry to the apartment building and knocked on a 57-year-old man's apartment door.

When the victim opened the door, the group pushed themselves into the apartment and began looting the place. One of the men allegedly pulled a knife on the victim while one woman acted as a lookout in the hallway.

It remains unclear if the victim knew anyone in the group or if the group was specifically targeting the 57-year-old.

The individuals then all fled on foot with a cell phone and jewelry valued at approximately $550. There were no injuries reported.

Video from the scene showed the group of thieves approaching the apartment with several reusable shopping bags and then leaving with stolen goods.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
