GORDON HEIGHTS, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A toddler was killed in a house fire early Wednesday morning in Suffolk County.
Police said nine members of an extended family were inside the home on Maple Lane in Gordon Heights when the blaze broke out just after 3 a.m.
After the fire was extinguished, a 23-month-old girl was found inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 34-year-old woman, 57-year-old man, 4-year-old boy and a member of the Medford Fire Department were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Five other residents of the home were unharmed.
The cause of the fire is not believed to be criminal in nature.
Gordon Heights, Yaphank, Selden, Farmingville, Middle Island, Medford, Holtsville and Coram Fire Departments responded, along with Shirley and Medford Ambulance.
