Toddler sisters, 2 and 4, drown in pond behind Long Island apartment complex

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — In a tragic incident on Saturday afternoon, a 4-year-old girl and her 2-year-old sister drowned in a pond behind the Long Island apartment complex where they lived, according to Suffolk County police.

At 3:16 p.m., a family member frantically called 911 to report the young girls missing from an apartment in the Fairfield Townhouses in Holtsville.

When officers arrived, they joined the mother and her neighbors in their search for the children. About four minutes later, the girls were pulled unresponsive from the development’s pond, which is located on the premises.

The Brookhaven Town Supervisor said that 911 dispatchers instructed the callers on how to perform CPR, but it was too late.

EMS transported the toddlers to Stony Brook University Hospital by ambulance, where they were pronounced dead.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
