MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A veteran skydiver died after he somehow fell to his death in New Jersey on Wednesday, officials said.
Timothy Joseph Slachta, 48, of Garnett Valley, Pennsylvania, landed in the Stirling Glenn neighborhood in Monroe Township just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office told NJ.com.
He jumped from a plane that took off from Skydive Cross Keys, a business located at Cross Keys Airport in the township, the company said.
According to Nadia Mazure, a manager at Skydive Cross Keys, Slachta's parachute was deployed at "normal altitude" after departing the plane and seemed to be fully inflated.
"All further details are pending investigation," she added.
Slachta had been skydiving for over a decade and had taken more than 700 jumps, Nazure said.
"Skydive Cross Keys' staff and community are deeply saddened by the loss of a loved and respected member of our community," she said.
Monroe Township Police, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are involved in the investigation.
