COMMACK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – An Amazon delivery driver’s vehicle crashed into a Long Island home this week, video shows, and residents say she fled the scene instead of telling them what happened.
In the video taken at a home in Commack around 8 a.m. Monday, the driver places a package at the doorstep, unaware her SUV is rolling up the driveway behind her. She notices the out-of-control vehicle at the last second--just before it crashes into the garage with a bang.
A resident who provided the doorbell video to 1010 WINS said it appeared to be an accident—the driver apparently left the vehicle in drive.
“It looks like it was an honest mistake,” she said. “It was raining that day. She was probably just trying to get out of the rain and get closer onto the driveway.”
No one was injured, but the crash caused $2,000 in damages to the garage door.
The main issue for residents was that the driver left without notifying them.
“I think if she would have knocked on the door, left a note or something, we would have felt a little bit better about it,” the resident said, adding the giant dent in the garage door was clearly going to be discovered.
“Obviously, everyone has Ring [cameras] nowadays, and it was bound to like be figured out who it was, you know?” she said.
The residents notified police and brought the incident to Amazon's attention.
1010 WINS reached out to Amazon but hasn't heard back.
